On March 2, 2024, NLU Mumbai’s Pro Bono Club members conducted a field visit to the Dadar market to collect data through a survey of street vendors. A survey was conducted to see how street vendors feel about their working conditions and the government programs meant to support them. To ensure participation was voluntary, vendors were first approached to see if they’d be interested in a survey. Prior to starting, informed consent was obtained from each participant and the survey was then conducted in both Marathi and Hindi for their convenience.
1. Lack of shop registration.
2. Knowledge about the schemes given by the government to street vendors.
3. The bribes taken by the police.
4. Beneficiaries of the schemes introduced by the government for the betterment of street vendors.
5. The harassment and relocation of the street vendors.
6. Availability of basic amenities like drinking water, parking space, shelter, etc.
7. Beneficiaries of the schemes introduced by the government for the betterment of street vendors.
8. Illiteracy and high drop-out rates.
9. Development in the living and working conditions of street vendors.
10. Awareness regarding the schemes that would be beneficial for them.
11. Neglection towards the conditions of street vendors.
