living wills visit 5th May 2024

On 5th May 2024 an event on Living Wills was conducted at Nandadeep Vidyalaya, Goregaon East. Dr. Nikhil D. Datar was the principal speaker at the Nandadeep Vidyalaya'sLiving will event, which was organised with the express purpose of educating people about living wills.

A living will is a legal document that allows individuals to express their preferences for medical treatment and end-of-life care if they become unable to communicate their wishes. Living wills are essential legal documents that empower individuals to express their preferences regarding medical treatment and end-of-life care. By outlining their wishes in advance, individuals ensure that their decisions are respected even if they are unable to communicate them later due to incapacity. To make it easy for the audience to understand the concept of living wills, he showed various clips from the movie “ventilator”. These clips included the real-life situations that we might come across or have already faced where we face kinds of difficulties due to the absence of living wills like, who will make the decisions, what equipment to use, what kind of treatment should be given etc. 

Maharashtra National Law University’s Pro Bono Club efforts towards the aim was praised and applauded. He appreciated how the students of the pro bono club are persistently working on the living wills project and helping people draft and notarize their living wills. Pro Bono Club has taken the lead in ensuring the right to life and dignified death by taking up the initiative of Living Will. The Pro Bono Club conducted a seminar elucidating the importance of living wills tracing its jurisprudential evolution of the concept. Efforts towards the aim. He appreciated how the students of pro bono club are persistently working on the living wills project and helping people to draft and notarize their living wills. Pro Bono Club has taken lead in ensuring right to life and dignified death by taking up the initiative of Living Will. 

The Pro bono club took on the onus of visiting individual persons to draft their living wills, notarize, register, and submit their respective living wills. Such 30 wills have been duly notarised, registered and submitted to the municipal commissioner due to lack of appointment of competent authority. Further a training session was conducted to educate on the importance and procedure to draft a living will.
