Mankhurd Visit

This time the club collaborated with PCGT for the visit. PCGT (Public concern for Governance Trust) which is a non-profit organization located in Mumbai, which was founded in the year 2002 with the primary objective of fighting corruption and promote the good governance in the country. The organization has been successful in engaging and inspiring young individuals, as evidenced by the significant number of interns who volunteer to work with PCGT to further its mission. The PCGT has a beautiful programme under it, named “Kuchh Aur.” Kuchh Aur focuses on Value education for responsible citizens and we selected BMC Schools, Private schools and aided schools in Mumbai. Its aim is to inculcate values. Its Sessions with students allow them to interact freely and understand why values are important in daily life. Ms. Hemangi Sawant, the coordinator for PCGT’s Kuchh Aur programme was also present with our Pro Bono Team.

On October 12 2023, at 3.0 pm a group of Pro Bono Associates along with PCGT team visited a place in Mankhurd, (Mandala Centre of Jan Jagruti Vidyarthi Sangh) a slum in Mumbai, to spread the legal awareness.

The main aim of the visit was to educate the children about their fundamental rights, preamble of our constitution. The team also explained to them about the good / Bad Touch along with the basic meaning of the POCSO Act and its provisions. The constitution of India empowers its every citizen with Fundamental Rights along with Duties, hence the common man needs to know about it, but due to various reasons, the person is unaware of it. Here the role of Pro Bono Club becomes very crucial as it makes it hard efforts to spread legal awareness.

The Associates started the session with an informal discussion along with few jokes, to make the students feel comfortable and to establish friendly relations with them. Further, our associates moved to the core topic of the session of teaching the Basic constitution, fundamental rights as well as the basic meaning of POCSO Act which also included good touch and bad touch. Students also with great enthusiasm participated in the learning process, session was quite interactive. The associates also explained to the students what all remedies and help we can seek if there is infringement of their fundamental or legal rights.
