Raigad Report

The Pro-Bono Club of Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai conducted a visit to Kumbhargarh, Raigad, on 5th May 2024.The village, mainly inhabited by the Katkari tribe, had a population of about 260 people with around 55 households. The team identified issues and access to facilities of the villagers. The team interacted with multiple villagers to understand the situation and grievances. During the visit, the team also met the Sarpanch and Police Patil of the village. The team aims to assist the villagers to avail benefits of government schemes and educate them. The villagers also face difficulties in access to amenities like Hospitals and Colleges.

KEY ISSUES:

  • Migration Challenges
  • Exploitation by middlemen in providing seasonal employment
  • Villagers lacked basic amenities 
  • Education obstacles persist 
  • Women face hygiene crises 
  • Insufficient infrastructure.
